At Brackley Butchers we know we are not the only ones passionate about our produce and so we organised a party to bring together some of our catering customers and suppliers who share our appetite for truly magnificent meat for an evening ‘behind the scenes.’ The barn and our new cutting room at Newbottle Estate was transformed for the evening with bunting and festoon lighting and the lads changed into their new very smart grey aprons. It was an opportunity for some of the fine local restaurants and pubs we supply to get to know us better and to meet the farmers who raise the animals. As we predicted, we all had a lot in common so, with beef carpaccio, mini lamb koftas and cocktail sausages canapés washed down with prosecco, there was no danger of running out of conversation!
Our guests then enjoyed 3 mini butchery demonstrations of Little Hill Pork, Purston Lamb and Newbottle Beef compered by shop manager Stephen who proved to be a natural on the microphone. Between each demonstration, we all had the opportunity to try the meat we had just learnt about, expertly barbecued by Warren and Matt from Wild View Events. We enjoyed pork chops with apple coleslaw, followed by butterflied leg of lamb with pomegranate cous cous and mango salsa and finished with Rib Eye Steak with a tomato and pesto salad topped with parmesan croutons. It was a rather greedy way of learning more about meat!
The event was covered by our lovely friend Fiona of Fiona Scott Photography who has taken all the fantastic photos for the new website and, after a few glasses of wine, the lads became very enthusiastic models, especially Graham! It was the first time we have organised an event like this and it was such a resounding success that it might have to become an annual feature and we would love to involve some of our customers at the shop next time if there is interest. Seeing farmers, butchers and chefs sitting down to eat side by side and proudly sharing their expertise and experience really brought back to us why we do what we do.
